Osaka trip 2016

Spent a week in Osaka, the last time we were there was 2013.

Shuttle ride to Sydney airport.

Had a day to check out the Monet exhibition at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

The guy in the foreground is engraving someone’s name at the Aritsugu knife shop in Nishiki Market, Kyoto. The guy in the middle is sharpening knives and I’m not sure what the lady is doing. This knife shop is one of the oldest in Japan, having been founded in 1560 (of course, the shop has not been in the market for that long). I think the sword market isn’t what it used to be so they moved to knives.

Went to listen to the Japanese jazz singer Yuko Usui at Jazz On Top.

Made a day trip to Nara. Very impressive woodwork and carving in the Todai-ji Temple.

Pity the lady didn’t get stuck inside.

Deer harassing a shopkeeper.

Trying to convince my wife we need a sharpening station like this in the kitchen.

We stayed near Umeda station.

Then of course, a lot of food eaten. Here are a few of our favourites.
